Every year my daughter and I come to Mystic for our annual beach trip and staying at the Howard Johnson has become a tradition we look forward to. It’s been amazing to watch her grow throughout the years while keeping our HOJO traditions alive—especially taking our annual photo together in the big chair out front. The staff is always super friendly and welcoming, the rooms are comfortable and the housekeeping team does a fantastic job keeping everything spotless. We love taking a swim in the pool after a day at the beach and the local eateries nearby are always a treat. The room rates are also very affordable compared to other hotels in the area, which makes it even easier for us to come back year after year. There’s a special nostalgia for me, too—I remember staying at HOJO when I was a kid and it’s wonderful to share that same experience now with my daughter. Fun fact: at its peak, Howard Johnson’s was once the largest restaurant chain in the U.S., famous for its 28 ice cream flavors—a little piece of Americana that still makes me smile. We look forward to returning every summer and continuing our father–daughter tradition at this HOJO in Mystic!
